This week we invited K&N Sales client Justine N. to share her renovation story with us on the K&N Sales blog. Do you have a K&N Sales renovation story to share? We would love to hear from you!

I’ve known Jennifer Bajorek for about eight years. She helped give our old kitchen a facelift with some Okite countertops, so when it was time to do our new house K&N was my first stop. They have a great showroom where you can see all the concepts, appliances, cabinet options, colors, and materials in person.  It helps enormously with selections.

We worked with Jennifer on the kitchen design. She completely re-designed the kitchen layout and cabinets as part of the overall renovation.  I was amazed at how many customized choices there were and we talked through the pros and cons of locations of sinks, the cooktop, and refrigerator. Jennifer came up with multiple options and explained each layout and the way we would use it.  Once we decided on a layout, she went into detail on how each cabinet could be used and the different styles and features.  We covered everything from spice cabinets to knife drawers and cookie sheet racks. I was impressed with the amount of detail that she went into, she knew more about how I would use the kitchen that I did!

After we bought a new house we were doing some renovations to open the living areas to a great room, so the kitchen had to be completely remodeled.  I was excited about being able to design a new kitchen. We went with Brookhaven cabinets with the soft-close features and a simple door style that would go with the mid-century house without being too modern. We already had a double oven and gas range so didn’t need to pick too many new appliances. We chose an under counter location for the microwave but used an adapter panel for a regular microwave to finish it off.  I love the look of the bar handles on the appliances, so we picked a 42” Sub-Zero French door style refrigerator that complimented the GE Monogram double oven we already had. We also chose a double drawer Fisher & Paykel dishwasher as we like to run the dishwasher every day but in small loads.  Jennifer helped with our selections by explaining the uses, popularity, and reliability of different brands and styles.

We picked Okite countertops and followed with the same look cabinets and countertops in the laundry room which was suggested by the kitchen designer (Jennifer) and I am so glad we did.  It gives continuity and style.

Thinking through how you use the kitchen, the triangle of the refrigerator, sink and cooktop/oven was new to me, and it took some time for me to settle on a layout.  But the hardest part was deciding on where to put the cooktop.  We moved it from the island (where the original gas outlets were) to the countertop to keep the island clean and simple and I am very glad we did. I love the huge island—there is plenty of room to gather around! And I still love the soft close cabinets, especially the pantry draws that makes it easy to see everything.
