Thanksgiving-Inspired Kitchen Design & Table Layouts
Thanksgiving is almost here, but don’t forget about those finishing touches! You can enhance your holiday table with Thanksgiving-inspired table and kitchen decorations. If you need a bit of inspiration, check out some of the resources and ideas below.
As guests arrive for Thanksgiving dinner, ask them to write down something they are thankful for on a paper leaf (or acorn, or turkey feather, etc.) and pin it to a framed message board for a lasting memento.
Get creative and use what nature provides! Collect beautiful leaves, acorns, and pinecones to decorate; purchase gourds, pomegranates, and other seasonal fruits and vegetables at the farmers market to use on the table and elsewhere.
No room for centerpieces? Create autumn-inspired place settings to set the mood at the table. Use fall colors like gold, green, and purple, and add personal touches like hand-stamped napkins or napkin rings, and hand-lettered place settings. Adding a treatment—such as a ribbon, or a wheat-stalk spray—to dining room chairs is another way to add flair while keeping the table free for food!
Make the kids’ table a fun place to be for the wee ones with a few simple treats:
- Special snacks and candy
- Gift bags
- Top the table with paper and provide crayons or markers—have the kids make a Thanksgiving “tablecloth.”
- Coloring or sticker books
- Cookie cutter “ornaments” to take home
Mason and Ball canning jars are great as casual-chic glassware, or in place of vases for flowers and other decorations. Use paint, natural twine, and stencils to customize jars to use as vases or candle holders, or use canning jars as-is in place of stemware.
