You’ve taken the plunge and begun your home remodeling journey.  You did your research, received valuable input from sales professionals, and hired a fabulous designer.  You’re excited to finally get started but also a bit anxious about potential hiccups along the way.  We’re here to provide you with a good guide to what you should typically expect as your project progresses.   First off, take what you’ve seen on HGTV and throw it out of the window, no pun intended.  While HGTV’s programs provide great entertainment value, they also paint an unrealistic picture of home remodeling projects.  In reality, the speed with which these programs are completed on television is not what you should expect in your case.  It’s simply not realistic so come in with the expectation that it will take time to create your dream kitchen, bathroom, outdoor patio, etc.   There are several reasons for this.  First, since there are multiple parties who are helping out, communication takes time.  You don’t want to rush things and then get a finished product that you’re unhappy with.  Clear and consistent communication is essential to prevent confusion and mistakes.  Second, are you the sole decision maker in your household?  Or will your spouse be involved as well?  As the project advances, you may come across options that you were not anticipating.  If there is conflict between your household’s decision makers, you will need to take the time to reach a solution.   There are also laws and regulations that impact what you can do with your remodeling project.  The most prominent of these are homeowner’s associations’ restrictions, permits, and historic zones.  Each homeowner’s association has different rules that you should familiarize yourself with.  You can stop by their office or they should have a guide available online that you can browse.  You may have to apply for different sorts of permits depending on where you live as well.  This is something your team can help you complete.  Lastly, while less common, if your property is located in a historic zone, you may be limited as to the renovations that are allowed.  Make sure you do some research about this before you start making your renovations.   american-traditional-0-5Looking at custom cabinets specifically, they typically take 6-10 weeks depending on door style.  While this is longer than most people expect, you have a ton of options to choose from and these cabinets are hand-made.  The quality and craftsmanship you will receive is a reflection of the time and effort needed to design your cabinetry.   While you will surely be presented with some challenges along your journey, the satisfaction and excitement you will feel once everything is set and done will be well worth it.  If there is anything we can do to help you along the way, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.  Our dedicated team of sales professionals and designers are here for you.  And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Houzz for some more inspiration for your home!
