Resources the Pros Use
We know that when our clients are looking for more information, they often turn to the Internet. Whether you seek product information, professional organizations and/or references, or even design ideas, the web is often the first place people start looking when they need answers.
Of course, there is often a lot of misinformation on the Internet, and it can be hard to know who to trust, or what information to believe. A basic rule of thumb is to look for the .org suffix in a website address. The .org suffix indicates that the website belongs to a non-profit organization, and are more reliable than a personal blog when it comes to seeking out information about a particular topic. Building professionals usually belong to one or more professional organizations, and those organizations are a great place to start learning more about what your expectations should be, and what professional guidelines are in place for contractors, architects, designers, etc. K&N Sales is a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), which is the premier association for kitchen and bath professionals.
There are so many websites on the web dedicated to renovation, home improvement, and contracting, but there are several great resources where you can look for answers with confidence. We always recommend verifying the information you find online with a trusted professional in your area, as they will be able to answer your questions more specifically to the area where you live and the project you want to complete. Here are a few of our favorite online resources where you can begin your search.
Visit the AIA Houston
website to learn more about architects and architecture in Houston. In addition to information about how to hire an AIA architect
, you can find detailed information on AIA Governance
, including Houston Bylaws and the AIA Long Range Plan.
You can also consult the national AIA
(American Institute of Architects) for information on contract documents used
by architects, contractors, developers, and attorneys to help you get a head start on the kinds of forms and agreements you will encounter during a renovation or building project.
The Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston
(ABC) is the Houston chapter of the nations leading commercial and industrial construction trade association. If you are planning on a commercial/business project, this website will prove invaluable as you begin researching, planning, and realizing your commercial remodeling project.
The Greater Houston Builders Association
(GHBA) is a trade organization, chartered in 1941, whose members are involved in development, homebuilding, and remodeling. Their website is full of great information on the housing and building environment in Houston, and they even have a search function
for finding remodelers and custom builders in and around the city.
City of Houston
The city of Houston also provides information online for those wishing to embark on home or commercial renovations. You can search by category (Residents, Business), by Department, or even by action under I Want To... You can visit the page for Planning & Development
to learn more about historic home and building preservation; visit Green Houston
to learn more about Green City projects, and information on sustainability and environmental news and reports.
We know that an Internet search is going to be just the beginning of your journey, and we hope that as you continue on the road toward renovation you make K&N Sales
a stop in your itinerary. We are ready to help answer your questions and provide you with the design innovation and product selection that will deliver the kitchen of your dreams.
